The Celtic Speed team got their 2018 season off to a super start in the Italian sunshine at Imola for Round 1 of the Masters Historic Championship.

The team were running the ex Keke Rosberg Williams FW08 in the Masters Historic F1 event and the event also marked the teams race debut for it’s Oreca Formula Le Mans prototype.The F1 races were an amazing spectacle as the sound of the Cosworth DFV engines wowed the local Italian spectators and gave the crowd an opportunity to stop back in time and relive the glory days of 70’s and 80’s F1 racing.

Tommy enjoyed a battle with Keith Frieser’s Shadow in Race 1 to finish 7th in class in the first race before going onto to record another 7th place finish in race 2.

The Masters Legends race for Le Mans prototypes saw an incredible 20 car grid line up for the first event of the new season in a Championship that looks set to be immensely popular for Historic racers. This also marked the first event for Tommy in the Oreca in his ex Starworks Motorsport Oreca.

Tommy’s pace improved throughout the weekend as he gained confidence in the new car and by race 2 he was really up to speed resulting in an amazing 3rd place finish overall, winning the LMP2 category!The next race will be at Paul Ricard for the Masters Legends where the new series will support the French Grand Prix.
